How METOL Works

  1. Melting & Impregnation:
    METOL is available in multiple forms—powder, pellets, filaments, and fabrics—making it adaptable to almost any manufacturing process. When heated to 140°C, METOL melts into a water-like state, allowing it to saturate dense fibres like carbon and glass efficiently.
  2. In-Situ Polymerisation:
    After impregnation, METOL undergoes in-situ polymerisation, transforming back into a high molecular weight polymer with mechanical properties superior to thermosetting composites.
  3. End-of-Life Recycling:
    At the end of a product’s life, METOL composites can either be mechanically ground down for use in injection moulding or dissolved through solvolysis, recovering both the polymer and fibre reinforcements for reuse. This process creates a true closed-loop system where the materials can be used again without loss of performance or quality.
